Our New Campaign is Changing the Recipe for Foodservice!
For the past year the HEAL Food Alliance and our partners in the Community Coalition for Real Meals have been developing a new campaign to draw much needed attention to one of the largest problems facing our food and farm system today: the concentration of market and political power in the hands of a few agri-food corporations. We are excited to announce the launch of that campaign – the Real Meals Campaign!
HEAL is a founding member of the Coalition and its Real Meals Campaign. Together, we are urging the country’s three largest food service management companies – Aramark, Compass Group, and Sodexo – to move their business models away from a system of exclusive relationships with big food corporations, and toward investments in food that supports workers, communities, and the environment, while investing in small-scale producers and producers of color.

Currently Aramark, Compass Group, and Sodexo manage over half of the country’s cafeterias at institutions such as universities, hospitals, and prisons. Each year they purchase billions of dollars worth of food from multinational corporations that pay workers and producers unlivable wages. These corporations also rely on harmful practices such as the excessive use of pesticides and fertilizers that damage our health and the environment, and market highly processed, unhealthy food.
This business model must change! As the campaign evolves, we will call on you to raise your voice with us to urge these giant corporations to use their massive purchasing power to become an active force for good working conditions, environmental sustainability, and racial equity in the food system. Stay tuned for more updates and ways to get involved!
