We're Hiring!

The HEAL Food Alliance is currently accepting proposals for a Website Developer. Details below!

Request for Proposals: Website Developer

*Proposals Due September 3*

Overview

Launched in 2017, HEAL (Health, Environment, Agriculture, Labor) Food Alliance was born from the knowledge that no individual, organization, or sector could transform the interwoven systems of colonialism, capitalism, white supremacy, and hetero-patriarchy in isolation. HEAL was co-founded by four organizations that saw their struggles are interlinked: Food Chain Workers Alliance, National Black Food and Justice Alliance, Real Food Generation, and the Union of Concerned Scientists. We firmly believe that true transformation requires our diverse skills, roles, and resources, working together to build our collective power for change.

Today, HEAL is a national multi-sector, multi-racial coalition of 43 organizations. We are led by our members, who represent over 2 million rural and urban farmers, ranchers, fishers, farm and food chain workers, Indigenous groups, scientists, public health advocates, policy experts, community organizers, and activists. Together, these groups are building a movement to transform our food and farm systems from the current extractive economic model towards community control, care for the land, local economies, meaningful labor, and healthful communities nationwide, while supporting the sovereignty of all living beings.

Website Purpose

We want healfoodalliance.org to be the go-to resource for HEAL Food Alliance members, allies, and supporters to learn about and engage with our members, our shared work, and our solutions for changing the current policies that shape this country’s food and farm systems (aka our Platform for Real Food). We want to creatively showcase the content we create (blog posts, press releases, member stories, toolkits, news) and we’d like users to be able to easily take action and utilize the resources that are on our website.

Project Summary

The HEAL Food Alliance is looking for a developer to build a new site - preferably on Wordpress, at healfoodalliance.org. We’re looking for a streamlined, clean, modern new website that matches the organization’s growth over the past seven years.
What’s not working
Our current website, built in Wordpress using the Bateaux theme, is over seven years old. The theme developer is not making updates anymore which means that plugins and wordpress itself are becoming increasingly incompatible with the current site.

Our organization and website have grown over the years, and the current format doesn’t enable us to showcase our work or engage users in the way we’d like. We're hoping a fresh website will help us better engage the audience we’ve been cultivating over the past seven years by showcasing members stories, our news, making resources accessible, providing opportunities for people to take action in support of our campaigns, and more
What we need
We’re looking for a partner in this project who will design and build our new website, make recommendations, and have knowledge and know-how in the world of Wordpress sites. The ideal partner will also help manage the process and discussion with a group of internal stakeholders, sharing information on the cost and use implications of the implementation of various tools. Security, accessibility, and ease of use are also important to the organization, and essential points of consideration in the development of the new website. If project management is not within your proposal/scope of work, please do still apply!
