Sun Smith is a beginning farmer, budding cook and baker, painter, and lover of ancestral pathways. They are trans-nonbinary mixed-race Korean and white person who lives and grows food on the ancestral homelands of the Aniyunwiya/Cherokee peoples, colonially known as Greenville, SC. SoPL is important right now, because more than ever, people are collectively realizing the harm that extractive land practices are creating. We are aware of the future that we are developing for the future generations, and we must shift our actions immediately. I hope to get the education and connections necessary to raise money for my community and I to become more interconnected with the land, through food growing, medicine making, and overall stewardship practices. Money is weaponized, and we are seeking to use it to create healing, instead of harm.
