Juana Cordova is a Bilingual Outreach and Intake Coordinator at Farmworker and Landscaper Advocacy Project (FLAP). Juana is a first-generation Latina from Lake County, Illinois, and draws strength from her family’s roots in Michoacán, Mexico and their Purepecha heritage. Her grandfather and uncle were both Braceros who faced wage theft, racial discrimination, and inhumane working conditions. Experiences that shaped Juana’s deep commitment to justice. Raised in a low-income household, she witnessed her mother endure exploitation and instability in the restaurant industry. These personal and family struggles fueled Juana’s passion for workers' rights. She earned a degree in Political Science with a concentration in Law & Courts, and a minor in Sociology from the University of Illinois at Chicago to better serve her community. Today, she advocates for low-income, immigrant workers and their households through FLAP, helping them understand their rights and access vital resources. Grounded in lived experience, Juana is dedicated to fighting for dignity, fairness, and justice for workers across Lake County.

The Workplace Climate Collaborative is deeply committed to fighting racial discrimination and the ongoing exploitation of the Latine community by building collective power and developing strategies that support grassroots organizing and long-term systematic change. Through SoPL, we see a vital opportunity to reimagine and transform food and agriculture systems by centering community-based solutions and ensuring that the voices of those most impacted, especially BIPOC communities, are heard, valued, and acted upon. In a political climate that continues to ignore and fail our communities, this kind of intentional solidarity and leadership is essential to advancing justice, safety, and dignity for all.
